HR management can take up as much as 40 per cent of your day

The area of Human Resources has a critical function in every organisation as it deals with their most important asset, employees. Yet, many small and medium-sized enterprises still choose to deal with this internally with functions often performed by the business manager or by department heads. They do so even knowing that the payroll and human resource management functions of an SME can take up as much as 40% of a professional’s day, which often leads to a loss of focus.

This is why companies are increasingly finding it not feasible to have their professionals spend so much of their time on activities that are strategic in nature, but are neither core business functions, nor revenue generating.

When a small and medium-sized company opts to outsource its HR activity, it will immediately discover a range of business benefits, that will help it gain more competitive advantage. Whereas there is no hard and fast rule as to what extent to outsource, the key is to develop a strategy and a solution that works for the particular needs and long-term plans of your organization.

One interesting area which an organisation on the verge of expanding should consider is that of outsourcing its recruitment activity. This service, which is also ideal for start ups who are seeking to employ a number of employees can be accessed on a retainer basis and this comes with a number of advantages.

First and foremost, outsourcing of recruitment means finding a placement for a new employee within a shorter time frame and with more success because an HR specialist will know how best to match the job description with the CV’s in hand, meeting actual clients and finding the successful candidate. This can be a very time-consuming affair for any employer and this is why we do it faster. This process is also recognized for as having a higher retention rate because specialist recruiters are more likely to find the right person.

Besides a much smoother hiring process, recruitment by retainer attracts better quality candidates and ensures greater confidentiality not only with regard to competitors who will not know what resources you are looking for but also amongst the candidates being interviewed in the initial stages of recruitment prior to sending any profiles for your perusal. This allows that only a limited number of individuals are aware of your recruitment drive.

At MISCO, we endeavor to offer the highest level of personalised service and our experience in the field has shown us that a retained search approach is considered more serious and professional by senior executives and results in much higher employee retention. Practically all our follow-ups confirm that employees proposed by MISCO have been retained by our employing clients.

From my experience dealing with retainer-based recruitement services, we are constantly on the lookout for talented individuals so clients are constantly benefiting from a growing and updated database. It is also a learning experience in that we not only fill a gap but we gain knowledge about the organisation, its structure and most importantly, its culture.

This heuristic and highly-structured service, falls within the bigger picture in a scenario where a company will choose to outsource all its HR activity to HR specialists. This brings with it some very interesting advantages.

One obvious benefit that your company enjoys when outsourcing its HR requirements is that it will free a lot of your time and energy that will enable you to concentrate on the core activities of your company. HR is a very demanding aspect which requires dynamism and constant innovation in its practice. Many organisations are finding out they would ratherfocus on their core strengths and income generators by outsourcing HR.

Running an effective HR department incurs constant substantial investment and organizations are finding out that they would be better off outsourcing HR to specialists at a lower cost than what they would incutr by setting up and employing their internal HR department. HR is constantly evolviong and demands constant update in good practice. Therefore, outsourcing HR to specialists who are constantly abreast with these developments, means that your company will be will able to tap into expertise which are in line with the latest HR practice.

HR outsourcing also improves recruitment of the best talent. Recruitement is acritical function andmany organizations would rather leave this role in the hands of a company who is specialised in recruiting talent. The most innovative HR practitioners will be strongly geared up on big-data mining, analytics, virtual workforce leadership, cloud technology and social media, and they will know how to exploit them to meet your company’s specific needs.

Of course, with advantages, there come some disadvantages as well namely that HR which is an integral part of your organization’s success is being run by outsiders who are not necessarily fully in-tune with your company’s strategy and philosophy. However, the advantages far outweigh this aspect which is easily overcome by outsourcing to reliable, trusted and experienced HR specialists who care about your people as passionately as you do.

At MISCO, we rely on the fact that we find and nurture talent who cares about your unique culture. We believe that outsourcing your HR activity has the potential to make your organization leaner, more adaptive, smarter and more profitable and as long as you act with foresight and a secure understanding of what it will mean, then you are in for a pleasant surprise.
